People spend a lot of money on fancy footwear every year, in a bid to add some ‘oomph’ to their feet. However, have you wondered how a pair of stilettos would look if your heels are cracked, nails soiled, feet tanned and hidden behind a layer of dead skin and nail polish chipped? Feet need to be pampered and taken care of, especially during this season.
Spending money on pedicures every week or fortnight can prove to be an expensive affair. Hence, we have compiled for you a list of homemade foot scrubs and soaks that’ll give your tired feet a makeover.
Foot soaks
Foot soaks are an inexpensive way to have a spa-like feet treatment done at home.
- The Ginger Soak
Add 3 tablespoons ground ginger, ½ cup sea salt and ½ cup lime juice in a tub or bucket of lukewarm water. Soak your feet in it for 15-20 minutes. You may then use a homemade scrubs or a foot file to remove dead skin.
- The Mouthwash Soak
Add 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup mouthwash to 1-litre water. Use a shallow tub or container to soak your feet in this solution. Gentle scrubbing with a foot file will help you get rid of the dead skin and dirt and leave your feet feeling fresh and smelling good.
Foot Scrubs
Dead skin tends to make your feet look dull and dry. Scrubs are the best way to exfoliate and remove it. Dab on some moisturizer post your scrub routine for best results.
- Sugar Scrub
Mix 1 cup sugar with half a cup of baby oil. Massage it gently on your feet and heels in a circular motion for 7-8 minutes. Wash and dry your feet thereafter and moisturize.
If you do not have baby oil, you may replace it with olive oil. This scrub helps in healing cracked heels if used regularly.
- Oatmeal Scrub
Mix 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of lime juice, 1 teaspoon baby or olive oil, 2 tablespoon sugar to 2 tablespoon oatmeal (you may grind regular oats to a fine paste for this). Massage this paste gently on your feet for 10 minutes. If applied once a week, your feet will be baby soft and glowing.
- Sea Salt Scrub
Massage it gently on your feet for 7-8 minutes. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer and hence keeps your feet soft and supple. Use it once a week for better results.
You may also add chopped fresh mint or dried mint powder to the scrub for better fragrance. A few drops of essential oils (in case you have them) helps you get rid of the feet odour.
The Soak and Scrub
Milk works wonders on your skin. Soak your feet for 10 min in 1 cup milk added to 5 cups of water. Gently scrub your feet with the Sugar scrub (mentioned above) for 7-8 minutes. Wash and completely dry the skin. Dab a thick coat of moisturizer and put on thick cozy socks for few hours. This routine, if followed fortnightly, will yield great results.
