With constant drenching and over exposure to humidity, the scalp tends to sweat in the monsoons. This makes the hair look dull and limp. We bring you some expert advice on natural home remedies to ensure your hair doesn’t lose its sheen this season.
Reetha-hibuscus paste
Reetha, or soapnut has natural cleansing and thickening properties that are ideal to treat the hair during the monsoons. It works well with hibiscus to add shine and volume.
Steps:
- Cosemetic dermatalogist Dr Jaishree Sharad suggests, ‘Soak reetha overnight.
- Mix soaked aritha with hibiscus (jaswant) leaves and grind it into to a paste.
- Apply it on the hair for 10 minutes and wash.
- Aritha helps cleansing, while hibiscus conditions the hair.’
Aloe vera and apple cider vinegar mixture
Aloe vera gel possesses hair nourishing qualities and immediately eradicates problems related to the scalp. It is a natural promoter for hair growth and leaves the hair looking lustrous.
Steps:
- ‘Mix fresh aloe vera with half a spoon of apple cider vinegar and apply it as a hair mask.
- Wash after 30 minutes,’ says Dr Sharad.
Banana hair pack
A thick banana hair mask is a great way to control the damage caused during the monsoons. The potassium in bananas helps to maintain your hair, keeping it healthy and full of bounce.
Steps:
- You could prepare this mask by blending 2 small bananas and adding a spoon of olive oil and 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, as advised by herbal remedies expert Anusuya Suresh.
- Apply the paste onto the scalp and hair strands.
- Wash it off after 30 minutes with lukewarm water.
Marigold flowers
Marigold contains phytoconstituents that help to keep dandruff at bay and prevents hair from growing sticky and limp. It is a great relief for people with oily hair too.
Steps:
- Anusuya also suggests to add a few fresh or dried flowers of marigold into lukewarm water and steep for about an hour.
- Strain the liquid and use this as a final rinse after shampooing your hair.
Egg hair mask
We all know eggs are protein rich and you can resort to using an egg mask to manage hair problems. An egg mask once a week would help maintain the lustre and add volume to your hair.
Steps:
- As celebrity make-up and hairstylist Ishita Khanna instructs, ‘Take some egg whites and add 1 teaspoon of olive oil and honey to it.
- Mix it all well to form a smooth paste.
- Apply it all over your hair carefully and leave it for 20 minutes.
- Rinse with cool water and shampoo it off.’
Potato juice
Potatoes are a healthy source of vitamins A, B and C, and can be used to enhance hair growth. When your hair receives an inadequate supply of these vitamins, it turns brittle and dry. Hence, potatoes provide for the needed vitamins and treat hair fall or hair thinning.
Steps:
- Hairstylist Ishita Khanna lets out her secret home remedy. She recommends applying some potato juice onto the scalp and leaving it on for 15 minutes.
- A mild shampoo should be used to wash it off.
- Do this regularly for better results.
